You should maybe go out for drinks with your colleagues 🥂.
week r.e.p.o.r.t, tech in news, media consumption
Knowing me is knowing that I never enjoyed going out for drinks with my colleagues. Why will I spend my little free time with people I already spend a shit ton of time with? What will we talk about - more work talk? I never really wanted to go for drinks until recently.
I say “drinks” here to mean socially hanging out with your colleagues.
The psychology behind going for drinks with my colleagues and why you should maybe get drinks with them:
If you care about building stronger relationships, networks, and connections, getting drinks is a great way to connect with your colleagues in a more relaxed environment. We usually foster surface-level relationships within the office. I find that when I am speaking to someone over drinks, I get to know them better, which in turn leads to us finding out interests we both have, understanding who they are as a person, and building a personal relationship.
Liquid confidence for some of us who need it; it is easier to connect when we have some liquid confidence, especially for us “anxiety-ridden” babies.
Also, you should not drink more than two glasses of wine (or a drink of your choice). But go offf if you want to drink more than two glasses.Promotion: I personally know someone who got a new role + more money over drinks with their manager.
Community, a sense of belonging in spaces where I spend more than 70% of my time, is really important to me. And, I guess I like fostering that community outside of the confines of work.
Informal exchange of information. If I do say so myself, I learn/ hear most of the exciting things (usually opportunities) happening within the company over drinks.
If you needed a sign to get drinks with your colleagues after office hours, here it is! Do it!
Weekly R.E.P.O.R.T:
R. Reading: I am currently reading “How They Started” by David Lester. I am enjoying learning how global brands were built; how great ideas became great businesses. This book has inspired me a lot to just build.
One thing I have learnt is to stop worrying about building the perfect product(s) when I can literally just start first and make it better on the way.
I have specifically enjoyed finding out that:
Adidas and Puma are blood brothers.
PepsiCo used to own Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut and food services.
Coca-Cola most likely started as a medicine.
KFC failed a handful of times before it became an international success.
National banks rejected financing Billabong because they didn’t believe in the vision.
E. Eating: Noah sent me “Gala”. The nostalgia that hit me while I was eating it sigh- I actually really miss Nigeria.
P. Playing: I went to see “One of Them Days” with Clare. 10/10 Serotinin; absolutely loved it.

O. Obsessed with: Hmn, wasn’t really obsessed with anything this week. Maybe brand marketing/ ads? I watched some really cool ads over the week.
R. Recommending: Still recommending this journal I got from Clever Fox.
T. Treating myself to: I treated myself to a shit ton of coffee; I really needed it.
