It is the 23rd of February, 1:27 a.m., and as I put pen to paper, one thing is sure—Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie(CNA) will forever be famous. And this “The Cavemen” album I am listening to is atrociously good.
Back to CNA, it's been a while since we read in wonder of her brilliance. 10years+? Wow. Her new book “Dream Count” is nearing its release date. This was accompanied by the brilliant marketing for “Dream Count”: an article in Vogue about her first love. Need I say more?
I read CNA for the first time when I was 13 years old; I read “Purple Hibiscus” merely because it was a requirement to pass my Literature class. I loved reading “Purple Hibiscus” for the first time - I read it cover to cover twice (back to back). I’d love to share how Purple Hibiscus made me feel, how it became the seed of my love for reading books, how, after reading, I loved being Nigerian for the first time—proud and patriotic, how for months afterwards, I wished I had an older brother, and I still hope for a friend like Amaka. Yet, words fail me.
Of course, I have gotten my copy of “Dream Count”. I am waiting, waiting impatiently for the 5th of March 2025.
Last week’s weekly R.E.P.O.R.T
R. Reading: I am on the last chapter of “Conversations on Love”. I started reading “Love Theoretically”. I'm hoping I finish both of them this week.

E. Eating: One of my friends, David, made Jollof Rice, which was ridiculously delicious. I am also blindingly obsessed with toast and eggs.
P. Playing: Played with public speaking at work. One of my intentions this year is to speak more in and outside the office. I hardly speak at work due to the fear that people’s perception of me will change once they hear me talk. It is a fear that I hope to confront head-on.
O. Obsessed with: Obviously obsessing over CNA’s article.
R. Recommending: I got a brand gift from Clever Fox. As you probably know, journaling is one of my favourite activities. Despite my love for writing, I had never used a physical journal. I have always been curious about how much fun I’d potentially have with a physical journal.
When the package arrived, I was thrilled at the prospect of beginning a new chapter in my self-care journey with such a beautifully designed journal. I will share more about the journal soon. I recommend this journal if you have been looking for a physical journal.
T. Treating myself to Little Moons Mochi Icecream.
Tech in Africa:
Affinity Africa, a FinTech, raised US$8 million in seed funding. Affinity Africa launched in Ghana in October 2024 to deliver accessible services to underserved and unbanked communities.
Nigeria’s (Obsanjo) internet usage has soared to a record high of over 1 million terabytes, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). I am genuinely curious: if you live in Nigeria, what did you use your internet for in January?
Elon is most likely pissed at this; Starlink may not launch in Africa due to South Africa’s regulations. A key requirement for applying for an Electronic Communications Network Services (ECNS) licence with the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa) is that 30% of the shareholding must be held by historically disadvantaged groups (HDGs). Which essentially means a black person.
A new AI Platform called AKILI AI is on a mission to empower African MSMEs. AKILI AI launched as a collaborative effort between AUDA-NEPAD, Meta, and Deloitte.
Some media I enjoyed consuming:
- listening to “Open” by “Rhye”.
- watching how “Fabien O” removed all distractions from his life.
- watching Tyla cook a South African Dinner with Vogue.
- watching Ajoke be a star at work (Goldman Sachs).
- started watching “Mad Men”. It is still a bit slow for me; not enjoying it so far hoping it will pick up soon.
- started watching “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”.
What I enjoyed this week:
Living.

This week, take care of yourself selfishly.
- Anoma.
CNA is a legend, Purple Hibiscus and Half of a Yellow Sun got me into reading. Also, The Cavemen are Goated!
Enjoyed reading this. I'll look to create a personal weekly R.E.P.O.R.T
